Jury & Awards

Each year, the Jury Award will be given to a film that showcases a strong filmmaking vision, displays passionate story-telling, shifts cinematic boundaries, and/or presents subjects with groundbreaking effects.

Next to the Jury award there is also the Audience Award.

HoFF 2020 Jury members

Dana Linssen

Dana Linssen is a long-term film critic for the Dutch daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad. Currently, she is a quartermaster for Film Forward a new talent and skills development organization for film and audiovisual creators in the Netherlands. With Jan Pieter Ekker she programs the Critics’ Choice at the International Film Festival Rotterdam where they commission video essay for the big screen. She is the founder of the Slow Criticism Project, a counterbalance against the commodification of film criticism, and teaches at ArtEZ Theatre Academy in Arnhem and the Audio-Visual Media Department of the HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht. Aramis Gonzalez

Aramis is a filmmaker and screenwriter. As a Dutch person of color, he didn’t see himself represented on screen. He, therefore, decided to change this in 2019 by making the short film Pariba in Aruba. The film premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF) and was screened at various international festivals. Cyrus Esfandiari is a director, writer, and actor from Iran. He has been living in the Netherlands for almost five years. After having worked in several films and theater productions as a director, actor, and photographer, Esfandiari directed and wrote his debut short film Scratched Blue Sky (2017), which successfully screened in several festivals in the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Canada, and Turkey.
