Synopsis
When Kang-Won, a devout Christian, publicly comes out as gay, this puzzles his equally Christian childhood friend, Ah-Hyun Seo. Her bewilderment inspires her to document his experience living life as a gay man, intimately portraying the cracks in Kang-Won’s happiness that develop over the years.
Torn between Seoul, Berlin, and the United States, Kang-Won struggles with his sense of belonging, while the director effectively asks—and struggles with—what it means to be anally. Set amid the South Korean LGBTIQ+ rights movement, Queer My Friends is more than a coming out story; it is a sincere, disarming testament about uprootedness and friendship.
