Synopsis

In present-day Madagascar, 20-year-old Kwame toils in illegal sapphire mines to survive. When his father dies, Kwame is forced to return to his hometown, where he reconnects with his mother and old friends. As he uncovers the corruption that grips his country and revisits the mystery of his father’s death, Kwame faces a choice between easy money and a deeper political awakening.

Disco Afrika: a Malagasy Story (2023) is Malagasy director Luck Razanajaona’s debut feature and earned a Special Mention in the Generation 14plus category at the Berlinale.
