October 5, 2024 | Neighborhood Discussion on Solidarity | Humans of Film Festival in collaboration with Alliantie Verandering van Binnenuit | Movisie

One week before Humans of Film Festival begins (October 10-13), we are organizing a neighborhood discussion on October 5 at 18:00, together with local residents. This event is in partnership with Alliantie Verandering van Binnenuit | Movisie and the Municipality of Amsterdam, and will be held at Mansvelt | Huis van de Wijk, Address: Karel Doormanstraat 125.

As we’ve observed a growing lack of understanding and an increasingly hardened society, we’d like to hold a neighborhood discussion on solidarity among different people (in terms of religion, ethnicity, orientation, gender, and more).

During the conversation, we will pose the questions: What is solidarity in general, and what does it mean to you personally? When are we truly standing in solidarity with one another? Can you be in solidarity with only some groups in society while excluding others? What can solidarity mean for all of us?

After a short speech by district chairperson Fenna Ulichki, we will watch a short film and discuss the topic with moderator Isabel Sheridan and speakers Pravini Baboeram (Aralez), Mustafa Ayrançi (HTIB) and Maaike Merckens-Bekkers (Who’s Right). We encourage the local community to participate, ask questions, and even share your own thoughts. We will conclude with a non-alcoholic drink and vegan/vegetarian Syrian food/snacks. Our aim is to maintain a safe, respectful, and constructive environment for the conversation.
