Set during the height of the Movement for Black Lives in Chicago, UNAPOLOGETIC captures a community of millennial organizers confronting an administration complicit in state violence against its Black residents. Black, queer women organizers Janaé and Bella provide an intimate peek into the personal and political battles that transformed Chicago, from the police murder of Rekia Boyd to the election of mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Told through the lens of Janaé and Bella, two fierce abolitionist leaders, Unapologetic is a deep look into the Movement for Black Lives, from the police murder of Rekia Boyd to the election of Mayor Lori Lightfoot. The film touches on themes of racism & discrimination, Black Lives Matter, and gender roles / equality, all through the lens of Black queer feminism, a perspective not often seen in long form media about Black social movements.
